Im driving at 65 and my battery gauge jumps from 14 to 18 and my check engine light comes on. I reduce to an Idle and it goes back down. What is the problem?

The most likely suspect is the control wire between the alternator and the voltage regulator inside the Engine Computer is grounded. That is the dark green wire, one of the smaller two, on the back of the alternator. Grounding that wire will make the alternator charge wide open. That can damage computers and overcharge the battery.
