Where is the starter located

I can't seem to find the starter in a 2000 dodge grand caravan sport and how do I know if I need to get a whole new starter or just a solenoid our van will not start on the first try and one the second it will start and we know it's not the battery it is brand new and we also had the alternator checked and it was fine as well.

Replace the whole starter. It is in the front of the van at the bottom of the motor. It is by the oil filter area. It is held by 2 bolts. There are 2 wires on the solenoid. Make sure you take off a battery cable before starting the job.

So it would be my best bet to put in a whole new starter than to just put on a new solenoid

Yep as in 99% of the time, the solenoid is not the issue. Replace the whole starter.
