my oil light is coming on and now it cuts off when driving short distance oil sending unit has been replaced 3x within 6 months what else could it be

You replaced the messenger because you don't like the message. It has been telling you the oil pressure is low. Have it measured with a mechanical gauge to verify that.

now the check engine light came on today and wont go off and has a smell of gas coming from the hood this just started taday

Once the Check Engine light has turned on there will be a diagnostic fault code stored in the Engine Computer. Cycle the ignition switch three times from "off" to "run" within five seconds, then read the numbers in the odometer display.
