2000 Chrysler PT Cruiser variable valve replacement

pt cruiser has a HEATER HOSE VARIABLE VALVE in the cooling system. (one way valve) mine broke so i replaced it with some plastic tubing to get home. Here is a pic. http://www.ptcompany.co.uk/catalogue/maintenance9.htmQuestion: should i replace this original part ? will there be any damage from not ? as the car goes fine with the tubing.

The picture did not come up but if it is a check valve you should put it in it is one way so it does not back flow.
