A lot of clunking/ thumb noises coming from the rear trunk area on rough roads. We've taken everything out of the trunk, initially we thought something was just bouncing around in the trunk. But even with the empty trunk still getting the noise. So I then thought need to replace struts but I did the strut test as in bouncing the rear end around and it only bounced 1 or 2 times. So this makes me think the struts are fine.... I've been told that it could be the strut bushings. The noise almost seems like its more isolated to the rear passenger side but I could be wrong... What's your opinion on this? ... thanks for your time.

Check the strut mounting bracket at the top as well as bushings. Let me know what you find.
