I recently replaced the distributor cap and rotor on my SUV listed above with a Vortec Engine mostly because when I had to change an injector when I was putting the plenum back on, I noticed that one of the ears on the distributor was broken. So, I ended up purchasing a distributor repair plate and I installed that with a new cap and rotor. Well, I just pulled off the wires in no particular order just evens/coil side then odds side. Got a new rotor in but I forgot to write down or mark rotor orientation but all in all I installed it at the 11 o'clock position. Installed new cap and plugged in the wires coil first then from back to front even then back to front odds. Went to start and no go. I know now that I clocked the rotor wrong, and it should be the 5 o'clock position. If I rotate that from 11 to 5 then plug the wires in following the firing order would that remedy having not done it correctly before or am I looking at having to get cylinder 1 to TDC compression stroke, then installation? Or worse needing a class 2 scan tool I can't really afford? I'm not really a Chevy guy so I'm learning all the way the Vortec motor has to be more particular on its repairs. Thanks in advance.

Hello, you didn't pull out the Distributor, correct, you just didn't the cap and rotor? This vehicle has 2 marks on the crankshaft pulley, so you can easily put the number 1 at TDC without having to put a compression gauge in the cylinder or anything. I'll post the info for you and let me know if this helps.
