2000 Chevrolet Tahoe Steering problem

Hello, I am having the steering on my 2000 Tahoe freeze up every now and then for a few seconds or I experience it "catching" when I make turns. Just had a power steering flush and a drive line service front differential. Something has also been leaking under my car. So took car back to dealership and they said the leak was coolant (it didn't smell like it). If power steering fluid was leaking could it cause this problem? Would either of those services have had anything to do with changing hoses for coolant?

Also...anything you can tell me about code 265 in reference to EBCM?

No, the services you had wouldn't cause this. Have you ever noticed the opposite, where it gets really easy to turn?

Well the steering feels very loose after I have driven a newer car like the one I am renting while the car is in the shop. But overall, yes the steering feels very loose most of the time and I feel like I can be all over the road. Does that make sense?

Yes, what you say makes sense. I hate to say it, but it has been a while since I worked on a 2000. If I recall correctly, there is a sensor in the steering column to create a drag on the steering so it isn't TOO easy to turn. The amount of drag is determined by the speed of the vehicle. That was my first thought, but based on your reply, I don't think that is where the problem is coming from. If the steering is excessively loose when you drive, I would simply start by checking all the steering components to see if something worn is causing the problem.

Thank you! Any chance you know anything about the ECBM code 265? The ABS light and red brake light come on for a few seconds every now and then. Maybe 2x per month? A few weeks ago when I had the car serviced they said it was caused by poor ground to the ECBM. Now they are saying that is needs to be replaced for $1200. Any thoughts?

Start by checking the 2 front brake sensors. Check for correct current and spacing between the sensor and reluctor ring. Also, check if the sensors being dirty or rust build up is preventing a clear signal from the sensor itself. If everything checks okay, then check the electrical connections to the EBCM itself. If all is okay there, you may have a bad EBCM.
