Can I drill out instead of useing a trouch to remove the rear u joint

Are you referring to the plastic insert that GM thought would be a funny idea? Drilling that out won't help. The injected plastic goes all the way around each cup to form a ring that holds them in. A propane torch will do the job. Once that little worm comes out, the cup can be pressed out.
