SOUNDS LIKE YOUR RINGS (AND PISTONS AND CYLINDER WALLS) ARE SHOWING THE INEVITABLE SIGNS OF WEAR
A COMPRESSION TEST MIGHT CONFIRM THIS
THE ONLY OTHER OPTION IS GOING TO BE. REBUILD THAT PUPPY
YOUR LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE MACHINE SHOP MIGHT GIVE YOU SOME PRICES
THAT'S THE COOL THING ABOUT OWNING SOMETHING OLDER, AND "SIMPLE". WITH A JEEP, PARTS WILL NEVER BE SCARCE
I REBUILT THE ENGINES AND INSTALLED CLUTCHES IN BOTH OF MY JEEPS. DIY, FOR RIGHT AT $1500 FOR EACH ONE, THAT WAS ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO
MY PAL JUST DID THE SAME THING WITH HIS JEEP CJ 258 ENGINE, USED THE SAME MACHINE SHOP, FOR JUST OVER $1700.I RECKON THAT'S A LITTLE INFLATION OVER THE YEARS
THE WAY I LOOK AT IT IS, THAT'S FOUR CAR PAYMENTS, GETTING BASICALLY A NEW ENGINE, THAT (SO FAR) HAS LASTED ME 15 YEARS ! !.'COURSE THERE A LITTLE FIX HERE AND THERE ALONG THE WAY ON THE REST OF THEM
BUT I FIGURE SINCE ONE IS 36 ("MR. JEEP") AND THE OTHER IS 67 ("WILLY") YEARS OLD. SURELY I'LL NEVER NEED TO BUY ANOTHER ONE, AS LONG AS I MAINTAIN THEM. AND IMMEDIATELY FIX 'EM WHEN THEY GET SICK
"MR. JEEP" IS DRIVEN DAILY, "WILLY" IS DRIVEN ONCE A WEEK, OR SOMETIMES MORE. KINDA SOMETIMES DEPENDS ON WHO HAS THE MOST FUEL IN THEIR TANK
LET US KNOW HOW IT'S WORKING OUT
