Is there anything that would cause an o2 sensor to go bad?

The service engine light came on, and when I had car scanned the problem was caused by the upstream o2 sensor, I replace the sensor, and everything seemed normal, the car ran good, and the service engine light had gone off. The next day the service engine light was back on and the engine was not as smooth. I scanned the car and got the same error code, so I again replaced the part, and everything was good, until the next day when the light came back on and I got the same code. Could something be causing thses sensors to go bad, or am I just unlucky at buying parts?

Check the voltage to the O2 sensor. What is/are the exact code(s)?
