2000 Chevrolet Impala Brace Connecting Trans Shifter Steering Column Broke

The brace connecting the trans shifter to the steering column broke so I replaced the whole steering column and the trans shifter cable but now it won't work at all and it seems backwards.What did I do wrong ?
