My van starting making a grinding sound at first I thought it was the engine. Then Inoticed the starter bolt was broken when I took the starter apart I seen the housing was broken. I pulled the broken pieces out of the flywheel cover replaced the starter it was fine for a few days and relized my new starter is broken again in the same spot what could cause this to happen? Also they cannot warrenty this part due to the fact it is something to cause this happen

What part of the starter is cracked? The part that fits into the transmission (nose of the starter)? Between the bolt holes?

Did you need to use shims to adjust the spacing between the starter and flywheel?
Is the fylwheel warped?

I've seen the engine block crack where the starter bolts go in, check that area.

The nose of the starter is cracked. I didn t know about shimming the starter. The people at the auto supply never metioned that. I do not know if the flywheel is warped is there a way to tell and would that cause the nose of the starter to break? The engine block looks fine. Also it did overheat not long before the starter went would that cause a flywheel to warp?
