what is wrong with my 4wd

panel in dash shows to stay in 2H. The car is actually in 4wd. It does not matter which button, auto, 4H, or 4L that I punch. Nothing changes. It is wearing out my tires and plays heck with my gas milage. Nothing I do seems to work. It stays in 4 wd.

need to have it scanned for codes
need a scan tool to access TCM codes

possible bad switch or an encoder motor
