Belt tensioner

My belt tensioner gets stuck every ten seconds or so when the vehicle is running. How do I fix this? Does the part need replaced? What affect will it have on my vehicle if I do not fix this problem?

What do you mean stuck? Not putting tension on belt? If that is the case, replace the tensioner assembly now to avoid bigger problems when the belt comes off.
