overheating

2000 sls caddy temp guage rises start to lose heat then temp goes down heat comes back then fine till the next episode ?weird changed burp tank cap , thermostat and have a new water pump but it seems to circulate dont know iif a simple flush would do it or what ?

Before I spent too much money, I would have the system block tested for the presence of combustion gases in the cooling system. If it is losing heat, that could indicate a low coolant level, but you should also have a low coolant message. That is if the sensor is plugged in and functional. If the coolant level is low, or it is using coolant, rule out external leaks as well.
