Car won't Move

I have a 2000 Cadillac Deville and I cranked it up put it in drive but it wouldn't move. So I cut the engine off and tryed to crank it again but it wouldn't crank.

When it wouldn't move, did the engine speed increase freely as the throttle was depressed, or did it act as though you were trying to accelerate with the brake firmly applied? What you are describing, almost sounds like it could be two seperate problems, but if something seized in the transmission, they could relate.
