why can't I get car to stay in park or get it to start in neutral

shifter will go into park but will not stay in park preventing car from starting, can occassionally get it to start in neutral

You need to check the linkage to the transmission for damage.

also check the neutral safety switch adjustment.hold it in park or in neutral and try and start it.try holding the key in start poss. while you move the shifter back and forth to see if the starter engauges.
