2 COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSORS?

crossover coolant pipe has two temperature sensors. one on the left one on the right. switch one is for temp gauge? the temp gauge is not reading right. car is not overheating. gauge is luxuriating. dohc 4.6l. 32 valves.

If the service info is correct the sensor for the gauge is the one on the left side with a Pink w/orange and Red w/white wires going to it. They both talk to the PCM but the first one tells the dash the temp, the other one near injector 1 controls the fans.
