I would suspect a bad tail gate harness. The stress from opening and closing the rear hatch will cause the wires to start to split open. Eventually they start to short with one another. Other symptoms to look for is the rear tail gate will not lock or unlock using remote or power lock switch. The rear tail gate harness is replaceable without having to replace the entire cabin harness. Let me know what you find with that harness. It is located on the left side of the hatch hinge. Wiggle it around while someone steps on the brakes.
