1999 Volkswagen Passat Dashboard Lights Went Off Could Fuse Electrical

My dashboard lights went off could it be a fuse issue a an electrical problem....secondly I smell oil each from the engine but there is no sign of leakage.

For the oil smell, check to make sure that the PCV hoses are not cracked or torn. A common leaking area, that will not always show on the ground, would be the camshaft adjuster seal at the back of the engine. The oil drips down and sits on top of the transmission.

The light issue could be a fuse, that would be the first spot I would check. Test all your fuses properly and see if you have any blown ones.
