1999 Toyota Mr2 Feul Guage Stopped Working Light Just Does Come On Tank Empty

My feul guage has stopped working, the light just does not come on when the tank is empty. does this guage run of a fuse of its own? or is there something else wrong with the guage.

sounds like the sender unit has failed in the tank. have it checked to verify
