1999 Toyota Corolla transmission filter

I want to change the transmission fluid. Does the filter need to be changed in this car?

The reason for draining the fluid is because you're replacing the filter. There's no point in changing half of the fluid if you're going to leave the dirty filter in there. Even if you do replace the filter, only half of the old fluid drains out. The other half is stuck in the clutch packs and valve body.
