A service shop just told me it would cost about $700 to replace my front left wheel bearing assembly in my 99 Subaru Outback. About $250 for the new wheel bearing and $350 for labor. None of this seems in line with what I have been finding as a reasonable for an alignment after the new bearing are installed.

That seems high to me, but labor is really based on where you live. The bearing is high too. You should call around and get quotes from others.
