What casues Subaru Impreza Station Wagon temperature gauge to dance to hot and moderate when stationary

There are two sensors for engine coolant. One for the gauge and one for the computer and fan turn on switch. They are both located near the thermostat housing.
Just because you are not overheating does not mean your temperature gauge is reading right. It probably needs a new temp gauge sensor.
