1999 Saturn SL1 1st gear isnt engaging

Neutral safety switch was replaced, when I drove out of parking lot gear wouldn't engage, had to put in 3rd and wait to shift into drove after first engage, then it drives fine for a bit. Plus cruise control stopped working full time.

Is there any codes was the switch adjusted correctly when it was replaced also why was it replaced?

The car had 2 episodes of not starting in a month, but both times interior lights &battery had juice, then after shifting from neutral to park it would start. I don't know it was bad it was what the 1st mechanic changed out.

So did all the gear problems start right after the neutral safety switch was replaced?Also has your check engine light come on since the gear troubles?Have you had the car scanned for codes yet ?
