My Pontiac Grand Am makes a intermittent wining noise that seems to come from the engine. I notice more often in warmer temps. and if the car has been idling a lot in traffic. No one seems to know what is causing the noise or where exactly it is coming from.

have your alternator checked. all that needs to be done is disconnect the belt and start it for a few moments. if the noise goes away its' somewhre in teh front of motor like alternator/ps pump. If it's still there it's somewhere else.
