This will depend on what happens when the engine does not start.
Do you get clicking noise?
If you get clicking noise when it does not start, it could be due to a failing starter. As the starter will get power but not able to start the engine.
It is good that you cleaned the battery terminals. As that is sometimes is the culprit. Also, you need to check the cable that goes to the starter and make sure it is secured and free of any corrosion.

If you do not hear any noise when it does not start, then the issue could be a faulty ignition switch. The ignition switch is the electrical component that the lock cylinder attaches to. Over time the connections of the switch will get worn and can cause no start. This typically will not make any noise as the power is not sent to the starter to crank the engine.
