1999 Opel Astra Engine Light Comes On Driving Aprox 3000 3500 Rpm Stalls

The engine light comes on when driving on aprox. 3000-3500 rpm. and the engine stalls.
What could the problem be? the computer says the mass air flow(MAF) sensor is low on voltage.
Is this a common problem with the Astra?

If the MAF is dirty or not calibrated correctly you can get these problems happening. i would be inclined to fit a new sensor, personally i do not like cleaning them as they are extremely delicate and messing around with them and do more harm than good.
