1999 Mitsubishi Mirage No spark, no fuel

I'm trying to help a friend get her car running again, and my knowledge is aircooled VW's so bear with me.
It died while she was going to get gas, got fuel into it,still wont start, battery was low so her mom bought her a new battery. Still wont start. I towed it to her place and we went through the fuel system... pump, filter and the connection i found to the fuel rail seem ok.

My hubby tested the plugs and found no spark and very worn plugs so i changed out the plugs, cap, rotor and wires for her. Still nothing... and hubby's tests still show no spark. (I'm chicken to do the screwdriver in the wire test). The fuses are fine, the relays that i can see seem to be fine. The battery and starter are strong. I'm not used to cars i can't push-start and I"m sure this thing has some weird interlock do-dad that we might have pissed off. I'm just trying to help her get it running for work Sunday, since she only works a few days a mo nth and is struggling to not have to move back home again.

when you replace a battery the anti theft unit has to be reset. call a dealer or Mitsubishi on how to do it. you will also have to reset the radio code which try the last 4 digits of the vin number or ask Mitsubishi when ion phone they will giv e it to you.

I'll try, but she says she didnt have to reset anything when they changed the battery 5 yrs ago

then you'll have to scan for codes to see what is wrong.

Well it's got no "anti-theft" system with the exception of the duct tape holding the back door shut :-)

It's 1.5l engine, and i have no way to 'scan for codes' in a vehicle that i can't move.

With CMP sensor connector connected. Check voltage between ground and CMP sensor connector terminal No. 5 on Diamante and Mirage 1.5L, or terminal No. 2 on Mirage 1.8L. Voltage should be 0.4-3.0 volts, while cranking engine and 0.5-2.0 volts with engine idling. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, replace ECM.
Disconnect CMP sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and CMP sensor connector terminal No. 6 on Diamante and Mirage 1.5L, or terminal No. 3 on Mirage 1.8L. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check wiring harness between MFI relay connector and CMP sensor.
Check voltage between ground and CMP sensor connector terminal No. 5 on Diamante and Mirage 1.5L, or terminal No. 2 on Mirage 1.8L. If voltage is 4.8-5.2 volts, go to next step. If battery voltage is not 4.8-5.2 volts, check ECM connector and wiring harness between CMP sensor connector and ECM. If connector and wiring are okay, replace ECM.
Check continuity between ground and CMP sensor connector terminal No. 7 on Diamante and Mirage 1.5L, or terminal No. 1 on Mirage 1.8L. If continuity exists, check CMP sensor connector. If connector is okay, replace distributor (Diamante and Mirage 1.5L) or CMP sensor (Mirage 1.8L). If continuity does not exist, check wiring harness between ground and CMP sensor.
Connect Test Harness (MD998478) between CKP sensor and harness connector. Check voltage between ground and test harness terminal No. 2. Voltage should be 0.4-4.0 volts, while cranking engine and 1.5-2.5 volts with engine idling. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, replace ECM.
Disconnect CKP sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and CKP sensor connector terminal No. 3. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, check wiring harness between MFI relay connector and CKP sensor.
Check voltage between ground and CKP sensor connector terminal No. 2. Voltage should be 4.8-5.2 volts. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, check ECM connector and wiring harness between CKP sensor connector and ECM. If connector and wiring are okay, replace ECM.
Check continuity between ground and CKP sensor connector terminal No. 1. If continuity exists, check CKP sensor connector. If connector is okay, replace CKP sensor. If continuity does not exist, check wiring harness between ground and CKP sensor

Thanks, i printed all your info out, but won't get to test anything until Thursday. If it is the ECM then the car is toast...it's not worth the replacement cost at this point.

We could take the chance on a junkyard ECM, but chances are that'll be why that rig was junked. :-(

ecm's are vin specific an dhave to be programmed to the vehicle. so a junk yard one won't work.
