went in for oil leak service and now it won't run

Is it possible to damage the engine while replacing the valve cover gaskets? We drove our car into a shop, running fine, with an oil leak. And after the work was done, the car wouldn't run. The car was towed to a dealership, where we were told the engine We had just had the car in a few weeks prior ... Had the timing belt changed

There isn't anything that can really be accidently damaged. Why was the timing belt replaced?

We replaced the timing belt as general maintenance ... It had the original belt, and the dealer strongly suggested it be replaced.

Okay... What problem has come up since the valve cover? There really isn't too much to hurt by doing that unless something was left unplugged or disconnected.
