Not much power when in drive

When in drive, my car strains alot and i have to rev it alot to even go over a little bump but when in reverse, it works perfect. what can be causing this?

Do you have a check engine light and when was last tune-up?? Is it auto or manual transmission and what liter engine-describe the vehicle properly

The engine check light is on and well the car was parked up for a year. Its a 4 cyclinder 2.4L engine. Do you think its something wrong with the transmission?
