1999 Mercury Other oil pressure

the light came on and engine was ticking. put oil in but no change . pump or filter problem ???

If the oil level was real low, it's possible the engine bearings were damaged. At that point adding oil won't help. The place to start is by having the oil pressure checked with a mechanical gauge to see what it really is. If it is normal, suspect the oil pressure sending unit.
