1999 Mazda Familia hold light

hi i have Mazda Familia when i start moving it ll engage 2 gear and the hold light comes on and it ll only pull with 2 gears and feels heavy on the foot.what could be the problem

have a trans guy scan for codes it's more than likely a seal or clutch in trans is bad

Thanx very much i will take the car for scanning and see where the problem is.i went to one of the workshops and they told me it might be temperature switch,i dont really know whether is true or not.
