Hello,
I own a Mazda familia 1999 hatchback car. When the car is really cold/ over night its difficult to start. It bucks a bit until the engine rev goes up a little over 2000 rpm. When it warms up, it starts easy after that. Any ideas as to what can cause that? I recently cleaned the air flow sensor, changed spark plugs and air filter but same problem.

Hi:

It could be a few things. The first thing I would start with would be to check fuel pump pressure when the engine is cold (in the AM). The fuel pump may be weak and not able to supply proper pressure to the engine when it is cold.

Also, there are temp sensors on the engine that are designed to tell the computer how cold the coolant is so the computer can adjust the air / fuel mixture. When it is cold, it requires more fuel. If the system is lean (not enough fuel) it can cause a problem with a cold start.

First, I have to say that this model is not available in North America. As a result, my manuals don't have the Familia listed. However, I believe the 626 is basically the same vehicle. According to my specs, the pressure for the 626 should be around 70 psi.
