my engine light is on with the O/D button blinking..what does that mean? i drive a 1999 kia sephia. also, when i turn to the left.. i hear a viberation or a loud humming noise. i also smell a weird exhaust smell and its louder.. what is going on?

thank you.. sometimes i can smell a weird smell in my car and the car sounds louder when i drive it.. do you think that has to do with the light on or is it something else?
