1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Rear Liftgate Door Makes Grinding Noise Either Locking

The rear liftgate door makes a grinding noise when either locking or unlocking the door. It still does lock and unlock properly, so I need to know the part(s) that needs to be replaced? I would like to know if I am on the right track of the problem? Thank you

the lock acuator motor is failing and must be replaced.
