I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Chrokee with an automatic inline 6 all time 4WD and 167,000 miles (engine replaced 4,000 miles ago) I've noticed a sound like grinding gears coming from somewhere close to the front differential but only after it's been driven 30 min or more. I've checked the transmission and it's fluids and everything seems to be good. I'm not sure what else to check.

Is this more like a "chatter", when performing turns?

No it sounds the same as when someone misses a gear in a manual transmission and it happens on straight aways and turns

I'm pretty sure you have positive traction. Have you changed your differential juice and used the additive required to be used with positive traction systems?
