transmission won't shift out of first gear

its a automatic with a 2.0 motor. 1999 Hyundai tiburon will go into drive but wont go out of 1st into 2nd or it wont go into reverse either. What could it be?

Sounds like an electrical problem, have you had a transmission diagnostic scan as yet, if not get one done as this will show up an potential electrical problems with the transmission, start here.
