When i put the car in reverse i feel a "knock or knocking" almost like a slight jerk. Does this mean my transmission is gone or going? what could be the issue?

I'd be inspecting the engine mounts first. At least one of them is responsible for limiting how much the engine rocks when you shift gears. When the rubber part deteriorates you'll get the two metal parts of the assembly banging against each other.

If you have trouble codes, that might tell you something.
