My wife was driving the car when it overheated. Trying to get a clear picture of what went on before it overheated was impossible.
do the clutch type cooling fans run at different speeds according to how hot the engine is? With the car parked and the engine running the engine cooling fan looked as if it was running at full speed but the air conditioner fan was running quite a bit slower. The car had been running and engine was hot prior to being parked. The fan did come on when the air conditioner was turned on although it was slower. I drove the car back home after it overheated (15 mi.). I left the air conditioner off and it never did over heat.

For your vehicle, the fans run only at one speed. the overheating is most probably due to lack of coolant or a stuck thermostat. Did you check the coolant level?

If one fan is running a lot slower that the other fan isn't that a sign that something is wrong with it. I did have to add water after it overheated but that was because the water boiled out of the radiator

Both fans are of a different rating and would run differently. Try tapping the fan motor and if it increases in speed., that would mean the motor is weak.
