The car drives fine in all higher gears or on the highway. Occasionally while doing stop/go driving the clutch begins to stick in 1st or 2nd gear, and the engine begins sputtering. If I pull over and turn the car off for a few minutes, it will usually work fine after. If I don't, it will eventually stall, but again usually work after being off for awhile. Yesterday instead of working after being turned off for awhile the car would start in neutral, but couldn't be shifted into 1st. It could be turned off and shifted into 1st with the engine off, but trying to start it like this just made the engine turn over somewhat slower than usual and the car would just lurch forward. After 24 hours it turned over normally again.

Start by checking for vacuum leaks. If none found, check the idle air control valve.
