There should be a belt tensioner. Once you release tension, you take belt off pulley. The tensioner may have a square cutout, for a rachet drive or breaker-over.

The tensioner has a nut in the center. do I loosen the nut? It looks like the nut holds the tension on

Sorry for the late reply, if there is a cut-out in the tensioner arm, view diagram, use the cut-out with rachet drive, maybe a 1/2 inch drive?
