1999 Gmc Savana Driver Called That Van Will Move Forward Gear Stopped Traffic

My driver called and said that the van will not move forward in any gear. He was stopped in traffic and went to accelerate when the light changed. He heard a "pop" and then nothing. He does have reverse gear and was able to get the van off the road. Any ideas of what could be wrong?

have a trans guy look at it he'll have to scan for codes but i't sprobably toast
