Just need to know how to go about replacing the starter on my truck. What size sockets do I need and any special tools needed?

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove starter brackets and shields for solenoid as necessary. Remove as necessary, any transmission covers, inspection plates, transfer case shield, brace rods, or exhaust header pipe and catalytic converter that would interfere with starter removal.
On Sierra and Silverado (4. Atel, 5. El & 6. Ol), remove front axle mounting bracket through bolt nut. Position the through bolt so it is flush with axle mounting bracket, with out removing the through bolt. Disconnect engine oil level sensor connector and position aside.
On "S" & "T" Series (2. Tool), remove front exhaust pipe. Remove brace rod from front of engine to clutch housing. Remove brush end bracket-to-engine mounting bolt. If necessary, remove brush end bracket from starter.
On all models, remove starter solenoid terminal "S" nut and battery cable nut. Separate wiring from starter solenoid. Remove starter mounting bolts. Remove shims and note arrangement for reassembly. Remove starter.
If metric you will need 13-15-10 mm wrenches if u.S. You will need 9/16-1/2- and 11/32 or 3/8 wrenches and sockets.
