why does truck surge forward in drive without accelerating

The defective Part that was changed that corrected the problem with my truck was the Fuel Lift Pump.
I had a similar experience with my 2000 Chevy k3500 diesel.
While driving around 40 mph truck would accelerate I would remove my foot from accelerator pedal
And the truck would continue to accelerate. I would then step on the brake truck would then decelerate, but could not accelerate over 10 mph.
