99 ford ranger with 2.5 dual plug engine. Got oil in water. Failed compression check on #4 about 50psi difference. Removed head and tested. Machine shop says it is good. Head gasket was in tact. Has new radiator. What is left and how to check?

If head and valves good and say gasket O.K. Then that leaves rings and cylinder wall wear. If engine was still intact a simple leak down test would tell

Are you sure that it's not trans fluid from a bad cooler in the radiator?
