1999 ford ranger 2wd 4-cylinder. My front driver's side tire is balding on the inside and clearly not flush with the road anymore. My passenger side upper/lower ball joints are obviously shot. Now the car shakes violently when the steering wheel is in motion. My concern is that this shaking points toward a more serious issue than the ball joints.

A wheel balance bent wheel or bad tires can cause a shake as well. Those are the most common reasons for that to happen i would also take care of your ball joint issues as well.
