I have a Mondeo 1999 2.0 zetec. Could I replace it with a focus 2002 2.0 zetec engine? Both have a black tappit cover. And they look identical.
I need a new engine. Found a focus zetec engine and it seems to match.

As long as the mounting will hook up you should be ok. That will be the most in=mportant part. Also use all the sensors and wiring harness from the OLD motor as the new motor harness and sensors may not match

The problem I have is I don't know if the mounting will line up with my mountings that I have. Is there a way to know without trial and error?

On second thought, we have no info on a mondeo as this is a european model. So not sure about this engine now. Althouguh the focus motor does NOT have an engine coolant temp it has a cylinder head tem p so would be different
