car wont go into gear after been put in reverse

hi, i have a ford ka 1999 V plate and when i put it in reverse it will make a big bang then then wont go into 1st gear but will 2nd and 3rd then when driven for a while will fix itself and go into gears normally can you tell me whats up and estimate price please?

The problem should be with the clutch system and the cost would vary depending on what needs to be done.

Is the clutch pedal low? Did you check the clutch fluid level?

Underhood there is a small reservoir at firewall with markings for Max and Min. Remove the cap to check the level. It should be higher than MIN.
