Starts fine and after just a few minutes on the road it starts to lose power like its running out of fuel. The accelarator does nothing and then it cuts off and is hard to start back up. Acts like no fuel. Smokes heavy and engine knocks after restart. After engine warms up it seems fine. Replaced fuel filter and cam sensor.

you need to check the lift pump pressure as well as the high pressure pump. it does sound like a fuel issue but you need to have it check to make sure of the exact failure.

make sure the oil level is good as well.

I will check it this weekend. I'm in the military and that will be the first time I will get a chance.

You should check the fuel pressure and pump restriction.
I am providing you with the procedure and specs.
Please note footnote on fuel pressure spec chart as they denote test location.
